Target groups of your project
Our primary target group is immigrant students, their families and teachers – secondary target group is peers and schools.
The number of refugees, which started to increase in the world after the 2. World War,has been increasing rapidly in the last 10 years. Turkey is the country with the highest number of refugees, while the number of refugees in many European countries increased in a very short time after the Ukraine-Russia war.
The number of refugees in our partner countries is 450.000 in Czechia, 1.7 million in Bulgaria, 4.8 million in Poland, more than 4.9 million in Turkey. When we examine it as an institution, there are already 35 refugees in Czechia school, 90 in our Turkish partner’s school, 62 in Bulgaria, more than 45 in Poland.
The STUDENTS, who came out of the war and took refuge in different countries, have problems in adapting to society and education due to their linguistic, cultural, lifestyle and social differences. Social inclusion of them should be ensured with the education and the importance of living together should be emphasized. So, inclusive schools and societies are achieved where the differences of all individuals are respected, their needs are met and they lead a dignified life.
One of the important heroes of IE is TEACHERS. According to IE,"teachers should be teachers of all students in the classroom” (Barton&Smith 2015). Teachers who integrate IE into the classroom facilitate the interaction between children, make all children a part of the same activities, create a class identity by making them feel that they are part of the same class, and enable thinking with a multicultural perspective.
FAMILY involvement in schools is a critical element for student success and motivation. Strong family-society-school cooperation creates connections for the student’s learning opportunities outside of school, increases school attendance, supports a sense of belonging, and increases interest in school.
PEERS are also indispensable for the integration of refugees into education and society. “Children who learn together also learn to live together”. Individuals who learn and have fun together develop a sense of belonging. When they fail, they experience support from their social environment and support their peers.
The places that bring all these groups together are SCHOOLS. For a successful social adaptation and school motivation, administration need to manage all these groups well. In inclusive institutions, communication, social and academic skills take place in a shorter time. The schools which putting the student in the center, establishing strong cooperation with the family, inviting families to every event, making them part of the school, organizing different trainings for them, supporting the professional development of teachers about integrate different educational approaches into their classrooms, supporting all students according to their performance rather than their “labels", having strong respect and empathy, are inevitable for the adaptation to school and society.
